Social Practice

Due to real-time scheduling conflicts, Social Practices have been put on HOLD until the Spring 2012 Semester.  Please stay tuned for updates!  We look forward to socializing again soon!

**********************************************

Remember that first event you went to, with the unfamiliar names, protocols, and mannerisms? Never mind the odd games (Nine man WHO??) and strange terms used for things... And that garb, well... it feels a little different than the clothes you're used to...

Afonlyn believes that it is important to have an opportunity to wear the clothes we spend so much time sewing, and to dance the dances we spend so much time practicing. Everybody knows social graces become more, well... graceful with use, and who doesn't like to eat?

Social Practices provide an opportunity to "put into practice" those items and skills we work at honing away from the list field, without the pressure of an "EVENT" where, especially for newcomers, it can be a little overwhelming trying to remember which coronet means what title, and when to bow/curtsey, and so on. This also creates a casual social evening where we can mingle with friends, new and old, and find fellowship within our own community of history enthusiasts.

These garbed "practices" are open to all, including members of the public who want to learn more about the SCA. We do strive to stay "in persona" when practical (so discussion of the Colts' performance is preferably left outside the doors, please!) but we also want to be able to answer questions and discuss various practices without too much convoluted "Pseudo-medieval Speak" confusing the matter. We have loaner garb available, and there's no cost to attend. We just ask that you bring an open mind and a willingness to step "Forward into the Past."

Afonlyn Social Practices are held the third Sunday of each month, on the Ball State Campus. Locations vary (we are at the mercy of the campus scheduling system!), so for up to the minute details, simply drop us a line! For directions, click here.
